DJ & Poet Collaboration (Soundworks, Mixes & Tracks)

Soundworks, Mixes, Tracks & Theatre Arts

Our Soundworks mixes & tracks are an explosive blend of Sound, Colour and Movement engages the audience with an experience beyond the action on stage.  It is sound with a vision to promote holistic well being.  Sound to inspire, motivate and entertain.

More than sound with a visual stimulus, the mixture of Spoken Word, Music, Visual and Performing Arts portrays philosophies in the vernacular of today.

Our Sound portrays the following Vision:-

“That each individual in society, irrespective of race, ethnic origin, gender, marital or parental status, sexual orientation, creed, disability, age, religion or political belief has the right to be and to provide; inspiration, motivation and achieve emotional, physical, mental and spiritual well being.”

Our Works

The works on this page are listed by collection.  “Development Stage”, “Outro”, “Butterfly Drinks Crocodile Tears”, “Luton Celebrates”, “A Lily, Gilded”, “Adinkra”  “Darkness Makes Sense in the Light” and “A Life Interrupted.”

Development Stage

Development Stage as the name suggests is footage from our early days, when we were still learning and discovering our art and is a collection of performances featuring the following poetry pieces from Nzinga Knight, set to a backdrop of sound and music played by DJ Silky G

Each one of these pieces reflect the pathway that we were on at this stage of our lives, not just in terms of our art and our performance on stage, but also our life experience at this time.  As much as life will continue to test and try us and each day brings a new lesson, this was the start of our journey and our Development Stage.

Much of what we learnt through this period, has shaped how we have grown as individuals, but also laid the footprints that our organisation has followed the years since, just as our current journey is forming the road map that Nine Red will follow in years to come.

Outro

Let’s take a moment to introduce ourselves

After years of developing our art and ourselves as artists; we are breaking free, breaking out and introducing ourselves as who we are…

Not an intro-duction, but an outro-duction, cos we are stepping out of the shadows and sharing our art

Adinkra

Adinkra is a spoken word collection that celebrates all aspects of the human condition, it blends cultures and spiritualities; it touches upon human relationships and social conditions; it explores the male and female genders and sacred union.  The name Adinkra comes from the African symbol language, the philosophies of which underline this collection.

Adinkra symbols where developed by the peoples of Ghana and Cote’ d’lvoire for use in decorating fabric and can be traced back to the 17th century. Over time, the number of symbols grew. In modern times, they have been used for every-day wear, as well as for special occasions. Each Adinkra symbol has a unique name and meaning derived either from a proverb, a historical event, human attitude, animal behaviour, plant life, forms and shapes of inanimate and man-made objects. Their meanings of motifs may be categorized as follows: Aesthetics, Ethics, Human Relations and Religious concepts.
